getting ready for juneathon.

I have had terrible allergies this Spring. It has interfered with my training and I ended up with bronchitis and sat on the couch last weekend waiting for the antibiotics to do their thing.  I ran on Wednesday and did some light weight training.  I'm feeling better and ready to train again.
So, as I get ready for the nonsense that is Juneathon, I thought I'd start training my fingers again.  Step one was getting the indoor bike trainer set up, since it's raining cats and dogs outside. Can't have that!
So I took measurements too. I will be lighter & learning come 1 July.

another really big goal?

I have not met my weight loss goal for this Winter/Spring of 2011. I've made progress then I stalled.  I am beginning to plan the fall race calendar and I've been tempted by some of the same races I ran last year.

And by the 2.500 anniversary of the Athens marathon. I really can't count that high. And listening to Haruki Murakami's account of running between Athens and Marathon kinda scratched the itch in terms of running that particular race myself (think hot, urban, hot, and well, hot).  (What I talk about when I talk about Running is a fabulous book, better even than my blog. Promise.)

But I need another dream to kick my a$$ into gear. Berlin? Athens? Provence?

I will pray to the currency goddess, may she bless my travel budget.  And I will begin again to make rich and rewarding sacrifices to the scale goddess, may she bless my waistline.

Oh, maybe this is the right goddess of the scale, Harmonia.

Juneathon cometh

I like running with other people. Either "It's funner with Friends" or "Misery Loves Company" . And even if my friends live in the internet, it's still fun to run with them. Juneathon is a perfect example. The mantra is Run Blog Log - every day.  I don't run every day.  But I do something for my health and well-being every day.

I had a lot of fun in January with "Janathon," where hundreds joined in the fun of running in the cold.  (see note above - misery loves company.) So I've registered for Juneathon. Ready or not, here it comes!   Why not you too?

a great loss to distance running

Samuel Wanjiru died yesterday in Kenya. Pictured above, in 2007, he broke the world record for half marathons in my adopted home town, finishing in 58:33. He was the youngest Olympic gold medalist since 1932.

His death is a tragic loss to the sport of running and to all those who loved him. I wish that his fantastic sporting achievements could have brought him lasting happiness.

Sometimes I wish I were a faster runner. I am lucky though. I am happy whatever my pace. Rest in peace, my brother runner.

betcha they're nervous too.

With 1,100 competitors from 30 different countries, Ironman 70.3 Antwerp will feature both an international and incredibly competitive field, according to race director Marc Herremans. No less than 13 Ironman and Ironman 70.3 champions, including Marino Vanhoenacker, pictured here, are expected to compete in the Antwerp event.
